Saturday I went to the Muskegon film festival and very impressed with the talk given by John (DJ) DesJarin special effects guru on the Matrix Reloaded and Revolutions. At the end of his multi media presentation and talk, he took questions from the audiences.
One young filmmaker ask him, assuming it's best to start with HI DEF VIDEO and stay digital all the way. DesJarin's answer was "not necessarily so?." Sighting the Matrix with it's heavy use of ramping camera speeds and lots of special effects shots done at 300 fps. Made shooting all HI DEF impossible.
"DJ, " also pointed out one of the large scenes from the last Star Wars flick, having lots of "artifacts" that were nearly impossible to remove.
Happy shooting film!
